However, thanks to all this, the ongoing project claims a central place in the current news, which justifies even a brief description of the already published broader framework of archaeological data or findings and planned works * as follows: The Acropolis was divided into walls , which communicated only through the Panathinaikos road and another one in the north. Despite its irregular shape, the mosques were almost square or quadrilateral, part of a system of equal or almost equal divisions. Each mosque had its own leveling (and altitude level) produced by embankment, but also by horizontal rocking. The final earthen coating covered the embankments, but also the wet ones. During the classical era, the marble outdoor paving was a luxury not unrelated to the sanctuary: north courtyard of the Erechtheion, Mosque of Athena Nikis. Exceptionally, the mosque of Zeus Polio was not rocked – perhaps for the symbolic preservation of the top of the rock. The Parthenon Andros, the largest of them all, occupied almost half of the Acropolis. The far eastern and southern parts of this plateau, pre-planned like the northern ones, were never executed. But similar geotechnical issues still exist today: the present surface of the Acropolis does not correspond to any ancient or medieval historical phase, but is only the accidental result of the Great Excavation (1885-1890), because after that most of the ditches remained as they were, while according to the statements of P. Kavvadias they had to be filled with soil material, in order to restore the leveling of the classical era. The main causes of the pending are the long delays in the preparation of the final publications of the excavation findings, the ever-prolonging need to re-examine the excavations, the occupation of much of the land by massive piles of ancient and other stones or at times by construction sites of restoration programs and, unfortunately, its habit. condition is: The ability to observe the anatomy of structures, which normally would not be visible. The possibility of aesthetic enjoyment of the rich physique of the natural surfaces of the rock. Disadvantages are: The continuous and rapid deterioration of the usually cheap stones of the foundations of the monuments, including the wall. The impossibility of surface drainage. Instead, water seeps into the embankments, causing severe damage to the rock, foundations and embankments, which in turn exert additional and long-term dangerous pressures on the walls. The impossibility of sufficient use of space for the movement or stopping of visitors and , finally, The deprivation of the monuments from the appropriate or even necessary for their correct view field of movement or stopping. For these reasons the restoration of the soils is considered by the ESMA absolutely necessary – Besides, thanks to the quality of the documentation the boundaries of the soils configurations are approached with satisfactory accuracy-. The main road, already paved in 1976-78, will be repaired and the northern road will be restored in the same way. Temporary construction sites will be abolished when they are no longer needed. All leveling will be restored. Buried foundations will be preserved where required. The necessary new embankments will consist of horizontal layers of aggregate quarry and clay, reinforced at the edges against horizontal leakage. The final coating will resemble the ancient, capable remnants of which are still preserved: a mixture of coarse and fine aggregates with clay and lime as an adhesive (at this stage, given the presence of cement with a reduced presence of soluble salts) this material is preferred). Appropriate gutters will be used at the outflow points. Part of the above work is related to the fixing of the walls (which is already progressing). The restoration of the ground in the mosques on the north side will protect the foundations of Arrifori, the Northwest Building and some other buildings, but will also neutralize them as indications. unfortunately alone, of the existence of these buildings. It is therefore appropriate to indicate the floor plans at the level of the restored land. To the east the soil and building form of the mosque of Pandonios should be restored. Other passages for traffic problems will be present only in the absolutely necessary number, in appropriately selected locations and will be recognizable as elements foreign to the original form (eg with local use of wood paving).
