Confirmation of 280 outbreaks of bluetongue – Case in Ilia as well



According to the available laboratory results and the notifications of outbreaks by the competent Veterinary Authorities that have been registered until 29.10.2020, a total of 280 outbreaks of bluetongue have been confirmed in the following Regional Units (PE): Kozani, Florina, Grevos Kavala, Xanthi, Drama, Thessaloniki, Serres, Imathia, Pieria, Pella, Halkidiki, Kilkis, Trikala, Larissa, Karditsa, Magnesia, Etoloakarnania, Evritania, Fokida, Evia, Islands, Theros and Laconia Lemnos, Ikaria, Corfu and Lefkada. In most cases, the disease was suspected after clinical symptoms in animals, while there were control animals that were investigated in the implementation of the serological surveillance program in which the gene was detected. In all cases, the serotyping process demonstrated serotype 4 of the virus. The number of outbreaks is constantly changing and in order to facilitate the control in their recording per PE, please send to the Department of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases of the Animal Health Directorate of the Ministry of Health the report of suspected disease, simultaneously with the sending of blood samples to the National Reference. The importance of the correct completion of the data in the declaration of the outbreak of the disease is further pointed out, which must be sent immediately after its confirmation. Pursuant to the current legislation and decisions of the locally competent Veterinary Authorities, the prescribed measures have been taken. With regard to animal movements, the following should be noted: 1. In the control zone in the cases defined therein, any movement is still prohibited, for 21 days, with the exception of the movement of animals for immediate slaughter within the control zone (or, in the absence of a slaughterhouse within a radius of 20 km, to the nearest slaughterhouse within of the protection zone) and provided that the terms and conditions of Commission Regulation (EC) 1266/2007 are met. In the case of a rearing in control zones resulting from successive outbreaks of outbreaks in an area (in the case of designated control zones), the commencement of a movement ban starts from the date of confirmation of the first outbreak. After the first 21 days, the control zone switches to the protection zone in terms of the application of the measures.2. The Regional Units of the Country in which even one case of the disease has been confirmed, constitute a protection zone in which the animals move, provided that: a) They have been clinically examined and do not show any clinical symptoms of Bluetongue on the day of transport.b ) Before their movement, an appropriate insect repellent has been applied to the animals (appropriate formulations are selected in terms of waiting time for animal products). C) The competent authority at the place of dispatch notifies the intended movement of the animals to the competent authority of the place destination at least 48 hours before the loading of the animals. The movement of animals susceptible to disease species from IP where at least one outbreak of the disease has been confirmed to the IP of the country where outbreaks of the disease have not been confirmed and through them is permitted provided that: Commission Regulation (EC) No 1266/2007 or (b) the animals satisfy any other health guarantees on the basis of a positive assessment of the risk of measures against the spread of bluetongue and protection against infection by carriers of the virus the competent authority of the place of origin and approved by the competent authority of the place of destination, prior to the movement of the animals in question; (c) the animals are intended for immediate slaughter.4. It is pointed out that in the case that the animals to be moved have been vaccinated for the serotype 4 of the bluetongue virus, according to the provisions of the circular number 1968/234989 / 26.08.2020 of the Animal Health Directorate of the Ministry of Health, according to set out in Annex III to Commission Regulation (EC) No 1266/2007, the following shall apply: (a) Animals may be moved from an IP where at least one outbreak of the disease has been confirmed to a country IP where at least one outbreak of the disease has been confirmed immediately after vaccination. b) Animals may be moved from an outbreak where at least one outbreak of the disease has been confirmed to an out-of-country outbreak where the disease has not been confirmed and immediately after the start of the immunity period specified in the specification vaccinated animals or, for mobile farm animals, provided that they satisfy any other health guarantees on the basis of a positive result of a risk assessment of the measures against the vaccine. bluetongue virus infection and protection against infection by virus carriers, required by the competent authority of the place of origin and approved by the competent authority of the place of destination prior to the movement of the animals in question.6.
