66% increase in data usage for mobile companies



Significant increase in data usage by 66%, with a parallel de-escalation of data prices which before taxes reaches 31.8% compared to the corresponding period of 2019, recorded the mobile communications sector in the first half of 2020. Specifically, in the first half of 2020, there was a particularly high increase in data consumption by 66.8% compared to the same period last year, while the degree of data use increased in the second quarter of 2020 to 2.58 GB per active subscriber per month, compared to 1.6 of the corresponding period of 2019, recording an increase of 61%. In addition, in the first half of 2020, talk time increased by 4.3%, while pre-tax prices decreased by 11.2% for voice services and by 31.8% for data, respectively. For the first half of Revenues from services amounted to € 888 million, showing a decrease of 4.9% compared to the corresponding period last year. The negative impact on roaming revenues was significant (-77% in the second quarter). However, the sector remains one of the most important investors in the country, offering positive results to the Greek economy as a whole despite the decline in revenues throughout the duration of the recession. With total investments of € 120.6 million for the first half of 2020, of which € 67 million relate to investments in the second quarter of 2020 – an increase of 10% compared to the corresponding quarter of 2019 – the industry confirms its essential contribution to the strengthening of the investment activity of the country and to the strengthening of the digital competitiveness of the country.
